This’ll be a fun one, or maybe it won’t - who knows eh?
However as always I enjoy writing these, in and around other things, like my Uni Studies & all the other bits and bobs that I do that typically are unpaid other than in appreciation & exposure not that I mind, but man am I looking forward to stocking up on things like Chicken Nuggets, Pizzas, and ingredients and equipment for 🔗kila’s kitchen🔗 in the very near future, oh and did I mention anywhere that I will have some 🔗Mhasl.me - Mental Health Affects Someone Like Me🔗 branded stuff too. As well as some for the PowerShell & other communities that I’ve been a a part of.
Anyways, lets get into it, shall we.
Problem Statement - How to fund the country
Firstly, I’m not going tory, or reform, but Britain needs a lot of good change to happen. We should give Keir Starmer a chance to turn things around. He’s got the opportunity ahead of him and we should all try to make Britain better for everyone. Is he the best placed person, who Knows, but he is our Prime Minister and we should give him ample opportunity to get the important 💩 done, which he and his team are doing.
We have many issues at all the different geopolitical levels, whether across continents, nations, local regions, cities and even down to our neighbourhoods & most of this comes down to the falsehood of their not being enough money to fund all the things that need to be done.
As Former Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May once said there is no magic money tree well that’s because successive governments failed to plant it.
Oh and Brexit definitely didn’t help, nor did the pandemic, and I think Boris did as good as he could but was ultimately stabbed in the back by the rest of the party.
We only got Truss because there are more “conservatives” that detested the idea of anything but someone white, being prime minister, or perhaps they saw their idol of Thatcher in her. If her & Kwasi Kwarteng’s disastrous budget alone, hadn’t happened then there wouldn’t have been so much pressure on Rachel Reeves to attack the benefits bill.
Using her own words to use every lever of government then well this post should give/extend any ideas, which is what we need ahead of this next budget.
We systematically suck at getting this all done, and then resort to slashing services, instead of building longer term reciprocal investment systems that actually bring money where it’s needed most. To those that have visions, but need support, including the funding to make it happen & not just via the private investment channels.
We also over rely on Private wealth being passed down between & across family generations. Mostly because families argue, fall out and can become over time, less like a well run unit that communicates and more of a splintered and shattered shadow of it’s existence that like many organisations ends up dissolving just as easily as a prawn cracker does on your tongue.
Note - I watch & read lot of things around politics, economics, science, law, policing, healthcare, military, whether historic, or fiction like that of the Manga/Anime Bleach which you can read about in my Bleach - IIN - Initial Interaction Note and if you haven’t watched it, you are missing out, because it’s so deeply Psychologically well written that it’s one of the ultimate best things to come out of Japan, which I don’t say lightly either. I mean there’s Ramen noodles, Soy Sauce, Nintendo, Sega (who should bring out a new console just to stir the market) & Sony & Panasonic, oh and Pokemon and sushi, and lets not forget about karaoke or Kanban (thanks Toyota) either. That’s just some of what that tiny Island like ours has given us that I am eternally thankful of. One day I hope to be able to visit Japan and personally thank Tite Kubo (Bleach creator) for bringing us what is one of, at least to me one of the most important things that I’ve ever been able to consume.
Suggestions
The following are required to move to a economy where the metrics used favour wellbeing more than they currently do, and favour a major lift from those that are struggling with different types of poverty.
These are just a few suggestions that I can happily make at this time. Some based on my own thoughts over the years built personal experiences and factoring in my history in finance and speaking & consulting with organisations over the years.
Implement an “opt-in” tax system
There’s many things in life that is guaranteed, taxes are one of them. At least until we move to a moneyless (not cashless, completely money free civilisation) & well that aint happening anytime soon.
You may have read this and thought not another tax & you’d be sorta right to think that. However let me explain why I think is important & I’ve thought on this for a good few years now.
As a former PAYE employee across many different industries, 1 time (failed) business owner, former/semi-ongoing but not trading IT Consultant and now student in Psychology & Business Management, on reflection, I feel that the current ways we tax the majority that work, needs a minor update, prior to some overhauls in the future.
I was lucky in a way that I understood taxes as a PAYE employee when I first started work. At least enough to continue to navigate through the maze that is the current tax system.
As such I knew about Pensions Contributions as well as National Insurance & Income taxes & how they are collected prior to you getting your post-tax (Net) incomes.
I always thought when I heard things as stupid as we can't afford around things like the NHS or HS2 or properly funded courts, military or 1001 other super important things, like a fairer and modern benefits system based on Universal Basic Income as I’ve written about before in 🔗Universal Basic Income - the way to a healthier nation! pt1 - mhasl.me - Mental Health Affects Someone Like Me🔗 which well is going to happen eventually.
I then always wondered, other than the management overhead in having such a system, why was there no easily opt-in tax collectable via my Pay and maintainable similarly to how pensions work but via HMRC. I mean that logically makes a lot of sense to me at 16, 21, 25, 30 and today at 35.
If it existed then I would have switched up the amount of my pension contributions to allow for more to go to this opt-in tax and take an overall 0.5% cut in my annual Post-Tax (or Net) income.
Why, as this would then with some additional leavers that HMRC could enable, would allow taxpayers a mechanism to overpay a bit of tax each month for a few years, and have this either returned directly to them in a future tax year via a reduced tax code (often called Future Tax Burden Offsetting), or can have the government be directed to how & where this should be used instead and this not have any changes to the future taxes we pay unless the government changes tax rates in a future budget.
But that’s what happens when you realise, that there are others worse off than you but yet still want to invest in your personal future, as well as those around you that you may know, or those nowhere near you that you don’t know & aren’t one of the selfish people that unfortunately don’t see why we should always fund supported education and support for people to become parents. As such I fully support lifting the 2 child benefit cap amongst other things.
What about the Sums…?
Lets start small eh…?
Note this would be collected prior to Pre-existing-taxes (for those via PAYE) or be payable directly via existing HMRC collection methods. All easily doable today not much more needed there to enable it, at least I do not think.
Heck a £5 coffee a month taken prior to Income Tax & National Insurance in this way every month (so £60 a year) for those on £45000 would leave a £43.20 difference in take home pay a year or only £3.60 a month.
Effectively being actually a net profit of the difference of £60 - £43.20 so £16.80 a year or £1.40 a month.
You may read this and think
net profitthat makes no sense if I’m not getting that each month. But this is where the beauty of thinking of it in the future Compounded Gains as opposed to just current today gains, plus by doing this it can and will aid in being able to reduce all of your future bills. This is the same as you throwing this into a Savings or Investments Account except instead of the increased gain in actual amounts you gain a reduction in living expenditures in what should be for most over 5 years be the most cost effective from a tax perspective. It’s a gamble, that’s for sure but a worthy one in my eyes.
The figures are the same for Those on £25000 a year, but slightly lower for those on say £75000 a year, at £34.80.
Times this by say 10 Million PAYE payers that opt-in to this would at £5 a month, yeah would only be £600 Million a year.
But put that aside a minute.
Change that number from a £5 Coffee a month to £50 a month each (again pre-tax) so £600 a year. However the difference in yearly take home is not £600 but £432. A further Net profit of £168 a year.
If the same 10 million PAYE do this then that is £6 Billion. A year, each year, if the numbers stay consistent, but I think it likely would grow further with other incentives like towards first time buyers and grants, not loans, to those looking to start businesses with a super quick injection from the Gov, where they can become a partial shareholder and then provide a rollback plan to the business. Much like how the Dragons on Dragons Den will ask for a share of the business.
And for those that could afford to and wanted to do so, were to put in £250 a month or £3000 a year pre-tax and say that’s only 500,000 that do this - that’s still £1.5 Billion, but I expect when people realise the true benefit here, they’d sign up and that figure be significantly higher than that.
I gathered some of the above information using The Salary Calculator a fantastic tool, and something I’ve used for years. Other than a brief period where I used a budgeting spreadsheet that I created when I was working at McDonalds to track income and outgoings based on the different benefits that I used to get as a working parent at that time, as well as the different cycles of when I had income come in, and the bills go out. I will release that spreadsheet at some point in the future as I know how helpful it will be to many.
Will it work..?
I estimate that doing this, could over the rest of the term of government bring in anywhere from as little as £10 Million (heck a £1 a year I think most could easily do) to as much if not more than £100 Billion yearly. If done and marketed correctly that is.
This is why I believe this MUST be done, and MUST be done now as it will help fund other things, like paying off our debts, benefits & reducing bills etc
By implementing this it would allow the government to invest in things that further brings down bills & improves our services in the longer term. Oh and for those that selfishly say things like don't have kids if you can't afford them I would quietly ask them about whether or not they like the Glass House they are in, & whether or not they know how to build it from the ground up. Not if they can afford to, but if they could do it on their own & not ask anyone for support.
As of ONS data for PAYE from 14th October 2025 there are 30.3 million PAYE taxpayers atm.
So take those figures and play with them a bit more, especially as I know for a fact there aren’t 30.3 million people that understand how PAYE taxes really work, or believe in the need for them at all. But those that do, well, they should see why this is such a great idea & especially at this time. If we managed to raise over £30 million for Captain Tom & the NHS in 2020 then I think you’ll see where this could go.
We won’t know if we don’t try & I think we need to. No we MUST!
However if Rachel Reeves were to do this, and I give her the permission to take this and adapt it if she wants, I just ask that she credits me with this idea if she does and whilst a big ish change I think this could be brought in as early as April if done quick enough & we absolutely should give this a go.
How this can be done for businesses is probably quite similar, but that’s something that I’ll leave to others to determine on the implementation. I just know I’m likely paying tax in so many ways in the future to make up for the time I have been out of the “paid” work pool that I couldn’t care if I end up paying something like 75% tax in the near future.
But then again I have many multi-billion pound income stream generators that I have potentially lined up in the future. Which is Why I decided 🔗Off to Uni I GO! - blog.kilasuit.org🔗 now was the right thing at the right time & whilst I’ve had a rocky start (more to come on that end of the month) it has been so fun so far.
So to all at Derby Uni so far, that have made me feel at home, and that have welcomed me, I say thanks. I hope the recent announcements to cut staff can be avoided and I will be reaching out to the Uni Senior Leadership team to see if any ideas that I have can mitigate this being as much of a requirement. Rachel, if you are reading, and I hope you will be, find money for our Universities so that they don’t have to take such draconian actions as this.
And yes, as a Student/Consultant I will be offering Derby Uni my consulting experience, billable, but with a 100% discount applied, the only thing that would be applied is VAT, which, I promise to match that amount and more, in funding drives and initiatives to safeguard the roles & livelihoods of the staff. The SLT should ask staff first if they could manage on a reduced hours contract instead of mass redundancies, and as someone that decided to take Redundancy from University of Manchester, with a little regret as there was & still is an awesome team there, I know first hand how difficult a decision this will be for all involved.
Which brings nicely me onto…..
National Wealth & Project Management Fund
The above would of course feed into this. Giving the government a new income stream that can be the most optimal for all that pay into it & receive benefit from it.
That’s why this too is imperative for Britain to successfully grow. We should have had this in place since I left school & definitely after the 2008 financial market crash. But nah Brexit was apparently much more important.
It’s already something that is wanted by many and when you look at Norway’s fund, it’s literal insanity that this has not yet been implemented. But unfortunately that’s because we’ve tried to tackle the government spend, in the absolute worst ways possible.
To many this may seem like a “tax by anything other by name” it should not be mistaken for funded day-to-day spending and easily fundable projects & services, from the existing tax streams or government borrowing, which to almost everyone is a maze of how could I provide or invest £500 to go towards a local or national project that I am passionate about but is exactly like how we can be generous to the causes that matter to us most in our communities just done from a nation wide perspective.
It should be understood as being the we can't afford to do this project and services funding stream. For the things we desperately should be funding, which I will be writing more on that another time.
By combining this with the above opt-in tax we make it easier to donate & invest in projects at a local & national scale. The linking of the two could be done in the HMRC App and by assignment to unique project codes for each project or more generally to specific departments & their specific expenditures.
It’s trackable, traceable and scalable by design and helps against backdooring by lobbyists too.
Oh and whilst those with the broadest shoulders would stand to gain the most from combining these together, as would the rest of the country too for literally every single generation today and every one to come.
It’s called a compounded ripple effect as opposed to a conflicting ripple effect and we need more positive ripples than negative ones ahead.
Wealth Asset Tax
Favoured by economists at this time, this should be a short term thing if implemented and should have guidance for either being removed at some point in the future the above 2 are in place, just to ensure the balance here works correctly.
Removal would I feel be dependant on seeing more of the wealth being distributed and more of the Big Hard projects getting completed which the above 2 items makes this easier going forward.
Also people are more perceptive when they are allowed the opportunity to give (especially if they can see the rewards from doing so) instead of being forced into giving, which is some pretty simple psychology really.
Conclusion
This is just a few quick things that I would really like to see implemented, others are a bit more sensitive in the lead up as we move closer to a wellbeing led economy that values all including those that can work, just as much as those that may struggle to work, and ensuring that those that cannot work are properly supported, whether that be short term, mid or long term or even permanently.
I’m not saying these will bring massive amounts in to begin with, however we have to start somewhere to long term reduce the amount of Debt that Britain has and also provide the level of services, like the NHS and others that must become free for the majority at the time of use.
This was a quickish blog post to put together and well Rachel, if you did read it, I hope you will implement these ideas. Failing to do so I feel is likely the real start of the demise of this Government and something that I for one don’t wish to see happen in the same way of chaos that the last government had.
It’s already been a rocky road for the government as they find their feet but with better cross party collaboration in the future I still a bright future for our wondrous and great nation of the United, not divided, Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and whilst I wish to see Scotland, Wales & Northern Island get a greater say in their futures, I truly believe we are better together, should not have fully left the EU but should have taken a minor step back from involvement in that great union of nations, much like the great union of nations we have under NATO, the G20, G7, the UN and other united fronts.
Oh and lastly, Elon stop messing with countries political systems, observe only. A man with your reach & power, should sit on the sidelines for a bit, before you cause damage to the planet, but then again you could solve world hunger but don’t so maybe spend some time on how you could do that. Because I already have a plan, that just needs the funding for developing and executing and is one that would be necessary for us to thrive as a species both on and off of this planet.
Putin, Please get your troops the fuck out of Ukraine, this year, and stop testing the collective resolve of NATO, for NATO even without the USA could crush you. But we’d rather get to a point where we can be friends with your great nation, not enemies. Russia has brought us many great things, War need not be one that we continue to see for the rest of this decade. I Strongly urge you to make peace with Volodymyr, if needs be I would be happy to sit between the two of you and get this war resolved. Perhaps we could play some snooker or chess. But lets stop playing with peoples lives shall we?
Xi Jinping, Taiwan is to be left the fuck alone. We too value your great nation, but bullying a smaller one, is not something that you should continue with either. Can’t we all be friends, instead of enemies?
And for everyone else out there reading, it is time we came together, at the end of this year, and collectively demand we get a year of peace and much better improved relations, and that we respect each other a bit more, learn to understand each other a bit more, reflect on where we are being childish and selfish and instead reflect on what has been 5 difficult years this decade & how we can make the next 5 fun, safe and importantly, not a worry for generations to come, and especially not the case for ending it in a Global World War.
We cannot afford for this to be the end of this dawn of human civilisation and all because we could not have productive and adult conversations, based on rational and not emotive thoughts.
I hope 2026 will be a great year for us, and that the rest of 2025 is kind to us all.
I am looking forward to hitting the ground running in November and getting ready for the darker nights, I just hope they won’t be too dark for us all.
I leave you with this amazing track from Bleach by Shiro Sagisu and can only hope we get another version of this that matches Ichigo’s latest evolution in the Thousand Blood War Arc - which you absolutely should watch & I am so looking forward to it coming back in 2026.
Peace out everyone, stay safe, wrap up warm when you go out and if you are anything like me, catchup on your studies and workloads and rebalance things if needed in the weeks ahead for the years ahead.
More from me soon, and I promise there’s more tech focused things lined up, this just needed finishing off and posting due the pressing need to get this completed and hopefully in front of the people that need to read this in time for discussions and actions to be taken.
Oh if you think these are good ideas then I would urge you to write to your MP referencing this post like I will be doing with mine, Baggy Shanker, who I was lucky enough to meet the other week & am thankful for his responses to the things I raise and ongoing support. I look forward to hopefully a long & fruitful and beneficial relationship with him and others across our great nation & across the wider planet for many more years to come.
Because the future is bright, and I’m far from done shining, in fact, this time around I’ve only just started to shine, after a long period of hiding away in the shadows.
Oh and the wealth inversion dilemma..?
If you read this post & fully understood it you’ll know what I’ve suggested has the potential to fix that dilemma.
Stay safe, wrap up & have fun & hopefully we’ll see each other, here and there, for years to come.
