Background
Firstly, CoreyT (Slipknot|Stone Sour|& more) is a talented musician, no one can doubt that, & not slightly talented, but immensely so. He & the members of both Slipknot & Stone Sour are definitely in my list of favourite Metal artists, along with many more that I will write about another time.
Like all other Musicians (which we all are in our own ways) & there’s no exceptions to that Music is both an art and a science & takes inspiration & talent to create anything.
This is true even if it’s AI Generated, but we should always appreciate the human created content, that often uses Assistive Technologies, over human-directed AI Generated content even if that type of content is what we find we are vibing well with.
That is not really up for debate as it is widely accepted just how immensely different the level of skill (or maybe luck) is needed to create something using physical instruments, like those used in Classical, Rock, Metal, Folk, Pop vs using widely available Assistive Technologies, like those used to create lots of the electronic music like Drum & Bass, Techno, Psytrance and others including all previously mentioned, though there’s also plenty of Electronic music that comes from physical instruments, High Contrast, Infected Mushroom, Pink Floyd & Pendulum are to name a few that I enjoy (of so so many inc Slipknot & Stone Sour) that use a combination of available technologies to them, to produce some really amazing sounding music.
However, Corey made a comment in an interview on Loudwire, that I saw on facebook whilst scrolling (IKnoRight), & one that I hope was to stir the pot & get us sharing more music, especially of many under rated or unheard of artists. Which if it was Well Done
as this is definitely what I will be doing from the offshoot of this comment.
Especially as a fellow vocalist (I sang Enter Sandman for my GCSE Music coursework) & albeit a returning guitarist (retaining as coming out of a long hibernation) I totes get his disdain & frustrations when there are overly modified vocals as those that are often used in many mastered releases & live shows.
Even if it wasn’t for that purpose, and he just cannot stand pop as a genre, which is totally understandable & absolutely fine, because we are allowed to have opinions, beliefs and a difference in opinions is healthy, as long as we can have adult debates, that can get loud & sweary, which I do recommend you have a read of The Power of Swearing post on mhasl.me as long as we manage to refrain from the debates getting violent, or being excessively sweary, & only when the debate allows for swearing, which most adult ones should do, especially those in the open & not behind closed doors. This is also irrespective of your ties to an organisation or a community, and please be you, and decide if you want to continue with a community if they put unfair restrictions on you as an individual like that.
However, all that aside, I bring you (with a little input from a frwend)
Sorry CoreyT but…
This is a a bit of a jokey thing based on the above but nevertheless with a little help from a friend I bring you (part 1/x)
The below playlist should be showing a scrollable list of tracks, but for whatever reason I can’t atm get it to show properly, so instead you can click here to open the playlist and it will open in either the web player or the Spotify app if you have it installed.
What’s next
Maybe go make your own Sorry CoreyT But… playlist, like I have, or don’t, or listen to the playlist, or don’t, imma not all that fussed but it would be interesting to say the least if we started a wave of similar playlists.
But none of ya can say, I didn’t stand up here and throw hopefully something that gets well taken and not seen as me attacking him, cos that’s far from the intent of this as it is to share what is a shared passion of both of ours and our love of music.
Also you will, in the near future find the start of a series on the Power of Music on mental health affects someone like me as well as future parts two of this jokey, but also actually pretty serious playlist, coming from me being influenced from those I follow as well as many of my good friends (directly or indirectly).
Oh and Imma in the middle of writing my own music, already got lyrics from areas of inspiration using some of the knowledge I gained when I studied this back in school, some of the since then, which is all a part of my plans for the future which are slowly coming together
if I do say so myself.
I’m lucky that I know so many talented musicians, so I & friends will deffo be bringing you more and more new music & I may try do a weekly/monthly release of EarPleasers in the future though I may not blog about them as writing blogs take time.
Finally
I love Corey as a Musician - I missed Slipknot in Manchester in 2019 & have kicked myself time and time again about it due to being tired from having not slept the night before. I was gonna be going with a friend who coulda driven us but that didn’t happen, and well I kinda wish I’d either slept on the way there or chugged a Red Bull (or 2), and just gone. But that was a day when my body was saying Nah not happening
and I KO’d when I got home, so next time instead eh!
Corey, if you do end up reading this the collective multi-decade releases from both Slipknot & Stone Sour are up in the top of my most listened to artists & I would love to chat with you and members of both bands about all things music some time in the future, though that many be too big of a wish right now. But if so then please do get in contact with me via the form on my Contact Me page.
Anyways, whilst there are loads of other avenues to checkout new music, I highly recommend checking out Every Noise at Once - https://everynoise.com for some inspiration on new things to listen to, although this has not recently been updated 😢, which in speaking with the creator on Blueskyit seems there is a need for public developer access across 1 or more of the streaming services to enable this to come back, which may seem like a big task, so let’s see what we can make happen around this in future.
So go have fun, and like my terminal today suggested maybe go down to your local pub and watch some local bands & artists, because that is really were you find some hidden talent and form new connections whilst supporting your local economies
cd in the below image is the alias in PowerShell (a technology you can use to manage your computer) for the Set-Location
Command and whilst I’d love to go to one of my local pubs, it’s not something I can afford atm. I use Pub|Pri for Public/Private content locations & wasn’t intending to go to a public one (which would have needed additional characters), which makes this even funnier, and somewhat spooky.
