Announcing: Derby PowerShell UK & Global Azure Gathering 2025

What, we get more announcements today then…?

Yeah though this was meant to be out last week.

What’s the (rough) plan

May 10, in memory of my dad (on his birthday), a former British Royal Air Force serviceman when he was younger, who we lost suddenly in 2022 to Pancreatic Cancer & to coincide with Global Azure running May 8th to 10th, I will be hosting a follow the sun event from Singapore to Seattle (so over 24 hours) of Azure & PowerShell content, much like the #pwsh24 event I helped co-ordinate in 2020 (& still need to upload some of that content - whoopsie)

As such I’m dual running it as a launch event for Derby UK PowerShell, group as well as a Global Azure event & it would be nice to do some fundraising too.

Now I have at least 24 hours of content that I could deliver myself, however I want you to share your content with me & the community that day.

Doesn’t matter if it’s new or old content. It could be 10 minutes or an hour, a video or a blog post. Whether it’s recorded/written already or not.

Or perhaps you need some help and guidance getting started with blogging/vloggin. If so Let’s get something going!

Doesn’t matter if you’ve never presented before or haven’t been great at getting going with writing, We can help you get through those barriers & get that sorted out 🙂

So if you have got an Azure topic you wanna cover,

Or a PowerShell one,

Or a Microsoft 365 one,

Or even better one that covers all?

& want to share it with the world but need a space for it, or some guidance around it or just want some feedback, privately or via my IINs repo or some help getting started

Between now and the End of May 10th (Seattle Time) I can find time to help. Though I probs could do after then too.

Especially moreso if you either wanna jump on a call that day and help me make the day go as smooth as possible or just have a catch up as I will be hosting a Teams call that day.

So, send me your “session” details via this sessionize form

Or any questions to me & the communities via this new repo as that’s where I’ll be doing as much open management as I can https://github.com/kilasuit/GlobalAzureDerbyPowerShellUKGathering2025 (which is being loosely used for management & likely will have slide decks published post the event)

Or just email me whilst I still have access to this mailbox at [email protected] with Global Azure & Derby UK PowerShell User Group Gathering 2025

And let’s go from there

Please feel free share internally, externally, on socials

And please,

Lets have a great day, in memory of all that we have lost, but raising a glass to learning and sharing what we can where we can, for them and all that came before them, as well as for us and all that will come after us.

I’m looking forward one way or another, sharing my stuff, and seeing what the community has in store for us that day.

Oh, I will be prodding people that I know to see if they may have some quick easy to publish content for this, by taking a leaf from Dona Sakar and trying the art of Voluntelling, which likely may be a disaster, though I know I will definitely be saying please to those that I approach for this.

So whilst some should expect some mails in their inboxes or tags for content on socials in the next few days, if you have an idea send it me, come on send it me & lets get it out there.

Where can we find things on the day?

I’m still deciding between scheduling some content directly to my Youtube Channel (@kilasuit90) and having some times where I’ll have a live stream to Twitch happening with a re-posting to Youtube after the event.

I know that my indecisiveness here for this event may be a tad annoying, however, its so that I can understand the full potentials for future events.

Either way, if you follow me on Twitter - @ryanyates1990 or BlueSky - @blog.kilasuit.org or on LinkedIn - http://uk.linkedin.com/in/ryanyates90 I will be posting updates via those channels as well as the respective Get-PSUGUK - PowerShell.org.uk social handles.

Further Updates (Amended)

As this will be a remote friendly, drop in if you feel like it, kind of event, with the idea to showcase, where possible, tips and tricks and lots of learning opportunities with using PowerShell, whether with Azure or with Microsoft 365 or any other platform.

I was listening to…

Lyrics fromcalyx & teebee long gone

Paper planes flying out of sight
Kaleidoscope in black and white
Paralyzed by what you do
Indecision catch 22
Another life, another time
Another superficial state of mind
I lose myself and lose control
I'm falling down the rabbit hole
And I'm long gone
And I'm long gone
Paper planes
Out of sight
Another time
State of mind
And I'm long gone

Fundraising

Oh, I meant to mention, there will be an active drive as part of this, to raise funds towards Sue Ryder- St Johns Hospice where my dad spent his last few days. This particularly will be towards raising funds for a memory tree in his name.

I, will when I can, be donating, (having been jobless for so long now definitely does not help) but right now I am donating my time to making sure that this marathon event will be a success, & whilst I’d love it if I were to be lucky and be gifted some coffee or snacks (like some that I have on this gifting list, whether to me or others) I know that won’t stop this being a success, especially as whilst I am also fundraising to help refresh some of my equipment, which you can look at a friend is lending me their laptop for the duration of the event.

I certainly am not expecting that from this that I will raise funds much like I would like to here, but I will be pleasantly surprised if we did manage to raise at least some, though I know in time I will end up coming back to these and funding myself once I’m fully back on my feet.

Whilst this event really has been thrown together very quickly, and definitely could have been better co-ordinated & executed, particularly in the delivery of posts like this and timing of posts etc, I’m looking forward to it.

Also hadn’t helped I needed a massive rearrange of my front room from how my old desk setup was (to how I have it now) to enable me to do this sort of thing more regularly and comfortably in future, which I’ll blog about another time,

Therefore, even if no-one else helps me with content, this event WILL HAPPEN even if I end up live streaming me reviewing my 10 years worth of PowerShell code, likely in disgust, live coding the building some tooling similar to tools that I had built in Azure for my Mental Health talk for Ignite 2019, or doing some Issue Management in the PowerShell GitHub Repo like I regularly do.

So that’s all for now! Catch ya’ll between now and May 10th & with your help, I will be smiling instead of crying through what I know will be a difficult day that day.

Oh, 1 last thing - I’m working on pushing a webpage showing a countdown for the event to this repo which will be there soon, as will the Snippet I’m adding to my PSProfile.
